Summary
Neutrophils play a significant role in immune response to bacteria. Mean normal neutrophil count lies in the range between 1.5-7.4 x 109/L and is age-dependent. Depending on the condition of the organism the neutrophil count can change. Neutropenia is a state defined as neutrophil count below 1.5 x 109/L. It can be classified as mild, moderate or severe. Neutropenia can be either congenital or acquired. The most common form of neutropenia is autoimmune neutropenia (AIN).
