Summary
Posttraumatic injuries of the teeth are the major cause of dental pulp necrosis in children. Lack of early diagnosis and failure to delivery appropriate treatment on time may lead to many complications. Discomfort in the form of pain and swelling, is possible to control after implementation of appropriate therapy. The most dangerous complication, however, is undoubtedly the extraction of the tooth. It initiates irreversible changes in both occlusion and alveolar bone, and generates costs associated with restoration of removed tooth.
Traumas to the permanent teeth occur most often in children aged between 7-12 years. Boys are more vulnerable to injuries because they activities are more contact and aggressive. In most cases, the upper teeth are damaged. Usually, these teeth get broken or cracked.
The paper presents a case of a patient who suffered injury at the age of 10, which caused irreversible changes in the pulp of the tooth 12, leading to its necrosis. Proper diagnosis and, subsequent treatment was started about 15 years later. Despite such a long time from the occurrence of the injury, the treatment was successful.
