Summary
Introduction. One of the basic symptoms of severe hemophilia in children is recurring bleeding into joints. Progressive destruction of joints leads to arthropathy. An effective method of preventing this is to treat patients with the missing factor and combine therapy with suitable physiotherapy, which is also essential in bleeding into joints.
Aim. The aim of this paper is to assess the effectiveness of laser therapy in the rehabilitation of children with arthropathy of the knee joint and severe hemophilia.
Material and methods. 16 boys with severe hemophilia A aged 8-16 were included in the study. The results of a series of 10 laser therapy procedures on knee joints in which hemorrhages had previously occurred were assessed.
Results. After treatment knee joint movement slightly improved and ultrasonography showed a decrease in hyperemia of the synovial membrane in this joint.
Conclusions. Laser therapy is effective in improving knee joint movement. This method of physiotherapy is safe and has no side effects.
