Wykorzystanie techniki „Narysuj i napisz” w praktyce lekarza dentysty sprawującego opiekę nad dziećmi**

Summary
Introduction: There are different methods which can be used in recognition of the child as a person and patient and in alleviation of anxiety connected with visit in dentist. One of these methods is “Draw and write” technique.
Aim: To present the usefulness of “Draw and write” technique in recognition how children aged 7-8 years perceived positive and negative elements of visit in dentist’s office.
Material and methods: The sample consisted of 37 children (16 girls and 21 boys), pupils of the first and second grades of elementary school. “Draw and write” projective technique was used. Children were ask to draw what they like and dislike during visit in dentist and write down the name of each drawing element. The content of drawings and descriptions were analyzed.
Results: Children presented many different elements which they like and dislike during visit in dentist. There are first of all procedures of dentist, elements of equipment and design of the office, behaviour and dentist himself. The most frequent positive elements were awards given children after visit and some procedures non-bound with pain. Among negative elements were painful and discomfort procedures. These elements were more frequent presented by boys than girls. On the most children’s drawings dentist was presented as a smiling person.
Conclusions: Children under study know a basic procedures during visit in dentist’s office. They perceived the dentist positively. Anxiety was connected with pain and there is needs to undertake activities for reduction of pain and establish warm contact with young patient. For children in younger school age awards from dentist and parents are important. “Draw and write” technique is easy and attractive methods and can be used in research and everyday practice of children’s dentists. It may be used for identification of the reason of stomatological anxiety and better preparation to procedures performed during the visit. The survey with using this technique may be carried out by dentist’s assistant or dental hygienist.
