Summary
On the basis of reflections and knowledge gained during an intimate meeting with students from Slovakia and Poland in Nijmegen, this study was created.
Every year, the Netherlands is at the forefront of all European countries in terms of the quality of medical care and patient satisfaction. There are no long queues to doctors, the facilities are equipped with modern equipment, and electronic files significantly improve the operation of the clinic. After completing 6 years of medical studies (e.g. at Nijmegen-Radboud University jn.), residency in the Netherlands lasts one year. It is important to achieve proficiency in Dutch as a prerequisite for obtaining the title of basisarts. Graduates are required to work in Dutch hospitals and clinics, which requires language qualifications.
In addition to this, at Radboud University Nijmegen you can study Molecular Life Sciences – the studies can be considered as a synthesis of chemistry, biology, medicine, physics and mathematics. The study of molecular life sciences consists of many practical classes, during which you can observe, for example, DNA using modern magnets and lasers. A family doctor (“home” huisarts), just like in Poland, is a general practitioner in case of health problems. To make an appointment with most specialists, you need a referral from a family medicine specialist (huisarts). In the Netherlands, a pregnant woman is cared for primarily by a midwife (verloskundige), not by a gynaecologist (vrouwenarts, gynaecoloog). The family doctor (huisarts) does not give a pregnant woman a referral to a gynaecologist, but informs her about the need to contact a midwife. Medicine can be studied as mentioned at Nijmegen-Radboud University, which was founded in 1923. An outstanding figure and one of the first Rectors of Nijmegen-Radboud University is Tytus Brandsma, born Siard Brandsma, niderl. Anno Sjoerd Brandsma (February 23, 1881-July 26, 1942) was a Dutch friar, Franciscan friar (OFM), Carmelite friar (OCarm), philosopher, academic, journalist, translator, spiritual father of Dutch journalists, ecclesiastical assistant to magazines published in the Netherlands, saint of the Catholic Church, Esperantist.
