The article reviews state-of-the-art knowledge on the role of Chlamydia pneumoniae infection in the genesis, progression and ultimate clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis. The results of some antibiotic intervention studies in patients with coronary artery disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm are included.
