According to the WHO, sexual health is the integration of biological, emotional, intellectual and social aspects of sexual life, important for the positive development of personality, communication and love. Sexual and mental health is one of the most important aspects of human well-being. This issue is also important in the practice of a family doctor, and one of the problems interfering with human functioning also in the sexual sphere is bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder is characterized by the occurrence of at least two episodes of pronounced mood and activity disorders in the form of increased mood, increased energy and activity (mania or hypomania) and depressed mood, decreased energy and activity (depression). These teams require psychiatric treatment, it is important that the family doctor refers patients with mental and sexual health disorders to specialists in the field of psychiatry or sexology. In diagnosing, treating bipolar disorder and further care of patients, also in the context of their sexual health, it is important to cooperate with a family doctor with a psychiatrist and sexologist.
