Summary
Lower respiratory tract infections (LTRI) are a heterogenous group of disorders and include: acute bronchitis, pneumonia and superinfections of chronic bronchitis. The purpose of this paper is to review and provide general guidelines for the care of patients with LTRI, which may be applicable in European countries, especially in Poland. The epidemiology, ethiology, diagnostic methods, management and treatment of LTRI are described. The aim of this article is to summarize the current state of our knowledge on LTRI and to present the European guidelines considering the aspects especially addressed to Polish general practitionairs.
