Summary
Cranio-facial injuries remain great social and economic problem. Their frequency is estimated in the range of 200/100 000 of population per year in high industrialised countries. Head traumas are connected with a higher mortality and morbidity rates than injuries to any other specific body region. The knowledge of pathomechanisms of head injuries, methods of management and treatment are of crucial importance for the course of the disease and its outcome. Reasons of the cranio-facial injuries, their pathomechanism, first aid, assesement of the severity, general diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, indications for hospitality are discussed in this paper.
