Summary
Early and accurate diagnosis is of essential importance in acute ischaemia of extermities, and it should be done by first-contact physician. The trials of conservative outpatient treatment lead mostly to failure and delay or make impossible surgical treatment. The progressing improvement in the methods of treatment of cardiological diseases increases ever more the number of patinets at risk for this ischaemia. Effective antithrombotic preventive measures are indicated always adjusted to the individual patient. The results of surgical treatment of arterial embolism are good, but in arterial thrombosis they leave yet much to be desired.
