Summary
The thyroid gland is an odd gland located in the neck, in her anterior lower part. Its operation is controlled on the basis of negative feedback by the hypothalamic-pituitary. Thyroid gland produces a number of substances among which the most important are triiodothyronine, thyroxine and calcitonin. The thyroid gland produces hormones responsible for the metabolism of the body and regulates the calcium-phosphate. The most common thyroid disease should hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism results from insufficient supply of iodine in food or improper metabolism which leads to a decrease in production of thyroid hormones. The main cause of hyperthyroidism is Graves and Basedow disease. In both cases, therapeutic treatment includes diet correctly matched to the disease. The diet of patients with hypothyroidism is very important supply of vitamins and trace elements having effect on the symptoms resulting from the underlying disease. In patients with hyperthyroidism should pay attention to the increased energy system and on this basis, the correct selection of the energy value of food. Diet plays an important function in the therapeutic and should be introduced as part of a multi-therapy. Nutritionists have a ready menu to facilitate adherence by patients.
