Summary
Introduction. The root of the permanent tooth is formed over a period of 3 years after the appearance of the crown in oral cavity. Characteristic features of the tooth with unfinished development of the apex are: wide apex, funnel-shaped funnel, thin and short walls of the root. Irreversible inflammation or pulp necrosis was caused by trauma or caries. It need to be removed from the tooth canal and proper medical procedure need to be for long-term maintenance of the tooth in the oral cavity. Generally the purpose of treatment is to create a barrier that closes the apex.
Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of endodontic treatment of immature permanent teeth by the MTA apexification method.
Material and methods. Treatment was performed in 23 children aged 7-13 years. Apexification was made in 26 teeth – 20 upper central incisors, 3 second incisors and 3 premolars. Apexification was performed using. MTA and the rest of the canal was filled with gutta-percha flow. The follow-up visits were performer after 3, 6, 12 months after treatment. The condition of the tooth were evaluated clinically and radiologically.
Results. The treatment outcomes were assessed on the basis of subjective patient perceptions, clinical and radiological studies. Not found in any of the methods reported by the patient. In the clinical study, discoloration after MTA (11.5%) was observed. Deepening of the gingival pocket and increased mobility resulted from hygienic and post-traumatic bone loss. Radiological examination indicated the healing of periapical lesions and the formation of a dentinal bridge.
Conclusions. Apexification with MTA is an appropriate treatment of immature teeth after injury, which require reconstruction in a short period of time for aesthetic reasons. If revascularization is not possible. The alternative is apexification with MTA. Comparing with the traditional method of treatment with calcium hydroxide, MTA apexification is a method requires fewer visits. It does not impede the root structure and characterizes a lower proportion of complications after treatment.
