Summary
Cancer is currently one of the major problems for modern medicine. Still looking for the effective but also safe methods of treatment. Today there are many the cancer treatments methods such as chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy and the most modern method the gene therapy. Unfortunately, these methods often prove to be ineffective for certain patients and are associated with the appearance of the body debilitating side effects. Therefore, despite the existence of such complex therapies, oncology patients are increasingly turning to herbs. The main motive for which they are doing this is a very low risk of side effects. The first mention of the plant, which was attributed antitumor activity appeared in the book of Dioscorides, a Greek fitoterapeuty. The plants exhibit antitumor activity primarily include those which comprise the following groups of active substances: sesquiterpene lactones, alkaloids, phytoestrogens, carotenoids, indole derivatives, curcuminoids. Chemical compounds belonging to these specific groups are characterized by very different mechanisms of antitumor activity.
