Summary
In each epidemiological season we register a significant amount of suspicion and cases of influenza. In the 2014-2015 season (from the beginning of October 2014 to the end of March 2015) in Poland, the figure was more than 2.5 million entries. The most effective method of prevention against infection is vaccination, which still raises many doubts among patients. This seems to be the cause of the low level of vaccination rates against this infectious disease.
In Poland during the season 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 are available inactivated influenza vaccines which contain fragments of killed virus: a “split”-type and “subunit”-type. Vaccines are unable to multiply in the body and cause disease.
The following article presents an update on the recommendations for vaccination in season 2014-2015 and the differences, which will be updated in the season 2016-2017 on the basis of recommendations of the Advisory Committee for the Affairs Immunization Practices (ACIP).
