Summary
The analysis of malignant neoplasms of paranasal sinuses in children.
The research included children who were hospitalized in SPDSK in Warsaw with diagnosis of malignant neoplasm of paranasal sinuses in period between 2007 and 2014. It was a retrospective study.
During the analyzed period the malignant neoplasm was diagnosed in six cases. In the analyzed group there were 3 girls and 3 boys, between the age of 10 months 16 years. 2 cases of Burkitt’s lymphoma in seven-year-old girl and five-year-old boy, 1 case of lymphoblastic lymphoma in eight-year-old girl, 1 case of squamous cell cancer in sixteen-year-old boy, 1 case of neuroblastoma in ten-month-old girl and 1 case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in four and a half-year-old boy were diagnosed.
Conclusions. 1. Malignant neoplasms of paranasal sinuses in children are rare. 2. Non-epithelial neoplasms, like lymphomas, sarcomas or neuroectodermal neoplasms are diagnosed most often in children. 3. Burkitt’s lymphoma was the most often stated neoplasm in the analyzed group. 4. The early symptoms of neoplasms may suggest chronic rhinosinusitis.
