Summary
A case of 18-years old female patient with hemoptysis and normal chest roentgenogram, both in a conventional presentation and in computed tomography, is described. The patient underwent bronchofiberoscopy at the Department of Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis in Zabrze. The lesions in bronchial tree were found. Histological analysis of the tissue revealed the presence of carcinoma mucoepidermale. We conclude, on the ground of the described case, our own experience and the review of bibliography, that bronchofiberoscopy should be performed in every patient with hemoptysis, no matter whether the radiological presentation of chest is normal or not, and no matter the presence or absence of cancer risk factors in anamnesis. We also conclude, that bronchofiberoscopy should be perfomed in every patient with hemoptysis and normal chest roentgenogram, no matter what is the result of computed tomography, which is a complimentary diagnostic tool to bronchofiberoscopy. Bronchofiberoscopy followed by tomography should be regarded as an optimal sequence in the diagnostics of hemoptysis in patients with normal chest roentgenogram.
