Summary
In this study, the susceptibility to Aromatol 41 strains of anaerobic bacteria isolated from patients with infections of oral cavity or respiratory tract and 5 references strains were investigated. Susceptibility (MIC) was determined two fold dilution methods in Brucella agar. The inoculum’s containing 105 CFU per spot was seeded with Steers replicator upon the surface of agar with or without Aromatol (bacterial strains growth control). Incubation was performed in anaerobic conditions in anaerobic jar, in 37°C for 48 hrs. The MIC was defined as the lowest concentrations of Aromatol inhibiting the growth of the tested anaerobes. The results showed, that the most susceptible from Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria to herbal drug in ranges 5.0-7.5 mg/ml were the strains from genus of Prevotella loescheii and Fusobacterium necrophorum. The strains belonging to the genus of Prevotella bivia and Prevotella buccalis were the lowest sensitive to Aromatol (MIC > 20.0 mg/ml). The tested herbal drug was very active against Gram-positive cocci. MIC’s for 80% of the strains were to the concentrations within the ranges from ≤ 2.5 to 5.0 mg/ml. The Gram-positive cocci were the most susceptible to Aromatol than Gram-positive anaerobic rods.
