Summary
This study was aiming to evaluate activity of cedar oil (Oleum Cedri) on 34 aerobic bacteria isolated from patients with infections of oral cavity or respiratory tract and 6 references strains. Susceptibility (MIC) was determined two fold dilution method in Mueller-Hinton agar. The inoculums contained 105 CFU per spot was seeded with Steers replicator upon the surface of agar containing various concentrations as well as upon that with no oil added (bacterial strains growth control). Incubation was performed in aerobic conditions at 37°C for 24 hours. MIC’s values were determined as the lowest concentrations that inhibited visible growth of the tested aerobic bacteria. The results showed, that the more susceptible was Gram-positive cocci and rods. MIC for 28% this strains was = 25.0 mg/ml. The Gram-negative rods were less sensitive (MIC > 25.0 mg/ml). The cedar oil showed moderate activity vs. the tested aerobic bacteria.
