Summary
Cardiac arrhythmias in children may occur at any age. The majority of them are benign arrhythmias and often resolve spontaneously. However, it is crucial to distinguish benign arrhythmias from potentially life-threatening conditions. The benign arrhythmias are asymptomatic, the hemodynamic status of the patient is stable and they do not degenerate to life-threatening arrhythmias. Once the benign form of arrhythmia is recognised there is no need for treatment, child can have normal physical activity, sometimes it is necessary to follow up the patient. Sinus bradycardia, supraventricular premature contractions, idiopathic ventricular arrhythmia are considered as benign forms. In this paper authors discuss particular forms of the benign arrhythmias focus on their differential diagnosis. The attention is paid to importance of personal and family history, patient age and type of arrhythmia. It is important to keep in mind that symptoms (specially syncope), positive family history and/or coexisting cardiac abnormality exclude benign form of arrhythmia.
