Summary
Nuts contain plenty of constituents such as: unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, fibre, microelements, antioxidants, which have beneficial effect on human health. These constituents can be acquired provided that nuts are not roasted. Different kinds of nuts have characteristic composition, thanks to which they have an influence on particular diseases. Scientists have been examining their influence on number of conditions such as: cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, obesity, inflammatory disorders. Nuts also have neuroprotective activity, diminish stress and they help to maintain appropriate quality of semen. Since ancient times they were thought to bring luck and health. Although there is also negative result of their consumption - peanut allergy. There is a need to find a way to counteract it, so this topic is current. Other possible side effect of peanuts consuming is contribution to forming atherosclerosis. These nuts are often contaminated by aflatoxins, that can have an impact on causing liver cancer. The aim of this paper is to present the influence of nuts on human organism and to expand the reader’s knowledge about their contents and health benefits.
