Summary
Introduction. Pain occurs in approximately 60-80% of patients presenting to emergency departments.
Aim. The aim of the study is to examine the causes of the phenomenon oligoanalgesia in emergency departments.
Material and methods. This survey was conducted in four emergency departments (ED) Pomeranian Province in the period from March to July 2014. Participation in the survey was voluntary. For the test method was used diagnostic survey using questionnaire technique. The research tool was the original questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale. The survey consisted of 20 questions. Respondents were distributed 100 questionnaires, of which generated a total of 63 correctly completed questionnaires.
Results. The study involved 63 respondents. Among the tested medical staff there are false beliefs about pain treatment that may delay or waive the proper treatment of pain. 76% of respondents claim that currently the nurses do not use their powers to administer analgesics without medical orders in the emergency department.
Conclusions. In the medical community, there are myths and false beliefs that influence the phenomenon oligoanalgesia.
