Summary
The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of standard, non-contrast endosonography (NCE) and contrast-enhanced endosonography (CEE) in the diagnosis of anal fistulas.A group of 126 patients aged between 16 and 70 years with clinical diagnosis of anal fistula were included. For anal endosonography a Bruel&Kjaer unit with 7,0 MHz transducer was used, and 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide was the contrast agent. In each cases, NCE followed by CEE were performed and the typy of anal fistula, differentiation between simple and complex, and location of internal opening were defined.
