Summary
Chickenpox is one of the most infectious childhood diseases, sometimes with unpredictable course, with various complications and even mortality risk. At the same time, it is a disease that can be successfully prevented by immunization. The aim of study was discussion of selected aspects of the prevention of smallpox in children with regard to the implications for the educational role of the nurse. A review of Polish and foreign medical literature on the prevention of varicella in children in relation to nursing education. The method of critical evaluation of the literature and the technique of content analysis of the collected papers were used.
Chickenpox is commonly considered a mild disease, with not always typical and uncomplicated course. The complications may occur in both children with immunodeficiency and chronic diseases, as well as in previously healthy children. They may result in permanent multi-organ dysfunctions limiting further opportunities for proper development. An important element of effective prevention is the implementation of varicella vaccination on the largest group of children. Prevention of varicella by vaccination is mainly indicated for children because of possible complications of the disease. Health education of parents in terms of immunoprophylaxis of varicella is an important task for nurses performing vaccination.
