Summary
Introduction. Cerebral palsy (CP) is an important medical problem. Is one of the most common causes of neurological disability among children. One of them is the method of NDT-Bobath (neurodevelopment treatment), which belongs to the leading.
Neurophysiological basis for the concept of NDT-Bobath, was developed by Berta and Karl Bobath.
The main objective of rehabilitation of children with CP is to be the most self in all situations and happy at every stage of your life, and each small success of a disabled child was happy parents. The concept of NDT-Bobath is a concept of ”living”, drawing on the knowledge of new theories and research findings concerning both neurology, neurophysiology, orthopedics, biomechanics, and others.
NDT-Bobath is used around the world. Adopted in the assumptions and procedures do not cause controversy and are widely accepted.
Aim. Evaluation of effectiveness of the method NDT-Bobath therapy in children with cerebral palsy (CP) in the opinion of the parents.
Material and methods. The study was conducted in 2013, at the L. Zamenhof University Children’s Hospital in Białystok – Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Children with the Centre for Early Support for Children with impairments “Give a Chance”.
The study group consisted of 30 children with developmental disorders including cerebral palsy (CP). Patients were streamlining NDT-Bobath method. The research tool used in the present work was unified personal questionnaire, by his own questionnaire, and an interview with parents and care givers.
Results. Analysis of the research material showed an improvement in motor development, in particular, gross motor and postural control in children with CP rehabilitated by NDT-Bobath.
Conclusions. Clinical form of cerebral palsy has a decisive influence on the results of rehabilitation, the earlier a diagnosis and rehabilitation started the better the results in improvement. The development of an optimal and efficient way to common therapy is a major challenge for the whole team involved in the child. Understanding the needs of a child with cerebral palsy is the basis of proper care, treatment and rehabilitation. The active participation of parents in the rehabilitation process gives better final results. The greatest gift that parents can give a disabled child is independence.
