Summary
In this study we present a rare case of planoepithelial cancer of nose and nasopharynx in a 17 years old boy. Main symptoms were running nose and nasal blockage since 2 years accompanied with nose bleed for about 3 years. In ENT examination nasal polyps partially covered with fibrin tissue were noticed which were confirmed by CT examination. CT examination did not show bony destruction of the nose and nasopharynx nor contrast enhancement. These data indicated the benign origin of the changes. In differential diagnosis juvenile fibroma was considered due to sex and age of the patient.
History: epistaxis and nasal blockage. Lack of contrast enhancement and bone destruction together with lack of tumor growth into the vicinity regions, were misleading symptoms.
Treatment: surgical removal and after histopathological confirmation; chemotherapy. Next causes of nasal blockage and nose bled in children in different ages are presented. Special attention were taken in considering cerebro-dural herniation in nasal cavity which may have polyp-like appearance.
