Summary
Patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) often have impaired ocular protective mechanisms such as the blink reflex or tears production. This leads to a higher risk of damage to the surface of the eye, which, if not detected in time, can lead to severe visual impairment, including blindness. The purpose of this paper is to present the principles of eye care in patients in the ICU. In order to answer conducted a systematic review of scientific. Due to the small amount of clinical research on how best to care for the organ of vision in patients in the ICU, there is no universal recommendations on this issue. There is a need for further research, creation and implementation of a protocol that will facilitate a proper assessment of the position of the eyelids, the effective protection of the surface of the eye and ophthalmic consultation in case of any complications or any pathological changes in the cornea.
