Zachowania żywieniowe rodziców dzieci przedszkolnych zamieszkałych na terenie Górnego Śląska

Summary
Introduction. Nutritional habits are formed at an early age therefore, it is important for parents to send appropriate attitudes in the field of nutrition for children of preschool age. Moreover, it is more effective if parents are the role models for their children.
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess dietary behaviors of preschool children’s parents and to identify the differences between the frequency of normal eating behaviors of girls’ and boys’ parents.
Material and methods. The study included 365 parents of children attending kindergartens in Upper Silesia; the proprietary research tool was a questionnaire consisting of 25 questions. The obtained results were processed with the use of MS Excel, while the statistical analysis was performed by using Statistica 10.0.
Results. The analysis of the results showed that 47.7% of parents always encourage children to try new foods and dishes. 75.9% of parents declared that their child eats meals at the table with the family, while 14.8% of them, while watching TV. 66.6% of parents occasionally give their child fast food products, while 20.3% did not give them at all. 43.8% of parents give the child sweets several times a week, 21.6% daily. 37.8% of parents occasionally give children fizzy drinks and 29.3% do not give these drinks at all.
Conclusions. Parents’ dietary habits are partially incorrect. The largest group consisted of parents characterized by a medium level of normal eating behaviors. There was no difference between the frequency of normal eating behaviors of girls’ and boys’ parents.
