Summary
Total Mesorectal Excision (TME) is presently the standard treatment for lower and middle third rectal adenocarcinoma. The quality of this procedure is a major prognostic factor and is associated with a reduction of local recurrence (LR) from 33% to less than 10%. Radiochemotherapy associated with TME can reduce the occurrence of LR to 2.4%. Only 50% of patients can undergo curative treatment. Re-recurrence is observed in 47-70% patients and the possibility of iterative resection is exceptional.
The aim of this study was to present a case of a man after primary resection of rectal cancer. Author performed TME and iterative anterior resection due to local recurrence and another re-recurrence.
