Summary
Osteoporosis, an increasing public health problem in Poland and all over the world, is characterized by reduced bone mineral mass. As the demographic shift to a more aged population continues, a growing number of men and women will be afflicted with osteoporosis. Seventy one and a half million of Americans will be 65, and nine million and six hundred thousands of Poles will be in 60-65 years of age in 2030. In general osteoporosis is connected with women health, although recently an increasing number of cases in men is observed. According to statistic, about 25% of women and 13% of men over 60 years of age suffer from osteoporosis in Poland. This review shows the findings of the studies to date which examine the role of the oxidative stress, plants, elements and physical activity for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis
