Summary
Introduction. Dialysis patients experience complex problems of a somatic and psychosocial nature, which negatively influence the quality of life. Chronic renal failure, treatment and numerous symptoms reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities.
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life in dialysis patients.
Material and method. The study included 80 patients of Dialysis Station in Golub-Dobrzyń. A diagnostic survey was conducted using a Polish version of a standardized WHOQOL-Bref questionnaire and authors’ original questionnaire.
Results. The research group (n = 80) consisted of adults. A majority of them (61.3%) were elderly. Hemodialysis was the main treatment choice (92.5%). Mean quality of life scores were as follows: physical domain (12.05), psychological domain (12.21), social relations (14.20) and environmental domain (14.18). Quality of life on the psychological subscale depended on gender and marital status. Not being able to fully perform professional work influenced the physical domain. The majority of patients (93.7%) were satisfied with the provided care.
Conclusions. The largest life quality deficits in dialysis patients were observed in physical and psychological domains. Men and married patients coped better in psychological domain. Patients whose functioning was not affected had better life quality in physical domain.
