Summary
Introduction. The concepts of health status, functional status and quality of life are often used interchangeably to refer to the same aspect of health. Functional status is the ability to perform ordinary daily activities necessary to meet the basic needs, fulfil obligations resulting from one’s position, and support health and well-being. It includes two interrelated elements: the possibility of functioning and actual functioning.
Aim. The purpose of the paper is to compare two groups of girls with menstrual disorder and without health and developmental disorders, aged 15-16, from urban and rural areas in the light of the questionnaire KIDSCREEN-52 in terms of individual dimensions.
Material and methods. The study included 122 girls with menstrual disorders and 240 girls without health and developmental disorders. The girls, aged 13-15, came from urban and rural areas and attended primary and lower secondary schools.
The standardized instrument – KIDSCREEN-52 Health Related Quality of Life Questionnaire for Children and Young People – was applied in the study. It was the Polish version of the questionnaire for examining quality of life related to health of children and adolescents.
Results. It is observed that with age a larger percentage of respondents, aged 15-16 from urban and rural areas, perceive themselves in a positive way. The observation relates to girls without health and developmental disorders and girls with menstrual disorders. It translates into increased self-assessment in health. However, this trend is much less marked (p < 0.001) in the group with menstrual disorders .
Conclusions. Prevalence of actions to raise the quality of life, with particular emphasis on girls with menstrual disorders, is likely to affect significantly the health and quality of life in the future.
