Summary
Dislocation of the elbow are difficult therapeutic and social problem. Despite of the correct treatment, the lesions of the precise anatomical structures of the joint, may cause a persistent dysfunction resulting in compromising the manual functions. The material presents a group of 107 patients, treated from 1997 – 2001, aged 18 to 76. The lesions were most frequently localized on the dominating limb side, and the mechanism of trauma was almost uniquely indirect (91,6%). The paper presents the own scheme of complex therapeutic treatment including immobilization, surgery and long – lasting rehabilitation. While assessing the results, the functional status of the limb was the main factor. This, in our opinion, was closely correlated with concomitant injuries. In the group of conservatively treated patients (with post – treatment rehabilitation) the satisfactory and good results were most frequent. In patients with dislocations complicated by intraarticular fractures, the results were fair or unsatisfactory, despite the correct treatment and obtaining the correction of bony anatomical conditions. Long – term rehabilitation, excluding forced, passive manipulations is the most important element both during the conservative, and postoperative treatment.
