Summary
Introduction. The most common risk factors of ischemic heart disease are: excessive weight, hypertension, age, hypercholesterolemia, smoking, lack or insufficient physical activity. The aim of this study is to determine occurrence of selected risk factors among group of the Ist year students of Nursing in Medical University of Warsaw.
Material and methods. The study was executed in 2006 in a group of 250 students. The measurements of body mass and blood pressure were made. Concentration of glucose and cholesterol in capillary blood were measured, using strip tests. Questionnaire survey, composed of 19 questions, was used to evaluate of life style and occurrence of other risk factors.
Results and conclusions. The analysis of received results prove, that the most important risk factors of ischemic heart disease are: excessive weight, hypertension, smoking and too rare or insufficient physical activity. It should be taken into consideration, that over half of the students who participated in this investigation declared among their relatives such diseases as: infarct, coronary artery disease, hypertension. There is reason for optimism because 75% of students who participated in this investigation don´t smoke (according to the results of questionnaire analysis).
