Summary
The article presents the review and analysis of literature concerning the ageing of the human body. The objective of the study was to show the most frequent problems of the elderly and risks that may result from geriatric syndromes, which affect the functioning, independence and self-care of the senior population.
The literature analysed was both of theoretical and practical character. Based on the analysis of the essence of the material concerning the ageing of the human body and „geriatric syndromes” an attempt was undertaken to present changes which take place in the human body, its individual organs and systems, and the problems most frequently occurring in the elderly population.
