Summary
The review of scientific literature show, that the extracts from herb and roots of Chelidonium majus L. have the antimicrobial activity. For antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral and antiprotozoal activities are responsible mainly isoquinoline alkaloids: chelidonine, chelerythrine, sanguinarine and berberine. The stronger activity show the sanguinarine. In the case of antiviral activity in addition to mentioned alkaloids are active also protein substances (poliglicosaminoglycan). Above demonstrated data show that extracts and alkaloids isolated from Chelidonium majus are valuble medicinal products for the use in treatment diseases caused by microorganisms.
