Summary
The measurement of the level of the patients´ health care is quite complicated. It is suggested that health culture, that is the attitude of the patients towards health and disease, considers the time from the onset of the first symptoms detected by a patient to the time of his/her reporting to a family doctor.
The study comprised 102 patients (58 women, 44 men) from The Family Doctor Outpatient Clinic in Końskie in the year 2006.
The aim of the study was to determine the dependence between the level of health culture and the selected social and medical traits of the patients.
The results of the study have proved that the patients who quickly report to a family doctor are those who take care of their health very much, who have confidence in their primary care physician, who are convinced that the symptoms of the disease will nor regress unless they visit their doctor.
The patients of high time interval are those who believe that the disease will pass itself, the appointment is a waste of time and they are convinced of the doctor´s lack of professionalism.
Basing on the suggested measurement, it can be concluded that the patients older in age and with university education demonstrate higher health culture.
