Summary
Introduction: Epidemiological studies in periodontology concern mainly the occurence of gingivitis and periodontitis. The periodontological status is commonly estimated with the use of CPITN.
Aim: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and severity of periodontal diseases as well as treatment needs in Warsaw citizens aged 35-44.
Material and methods: The study group consisted of 250 citizens of Warsaw aged 35-44 years. The collected interview information concerned gender, age, education, income, height and weight, nicotinism and stress as well as general health and familial occurence of periodontitis. The study was performed with the use of WHO-621 periodontal probe.
Results: The CPI 0 code did not occur in any examined patient. CPI 1 was diagnosed in 6% of patients, CPI 2 in 24.4%, CPI 3 in 43.6%, CPI 4 in 26% of patients. The mean number of sextants with CPI 0 = 0.24, CPI 1-4 = 5.49, CPI 2-4 = 3.50, CPI 3-4 = 2.08, CPI 4 = 0.54. According to the age, the differences between the CPI 0, CPI 1, CPI 2, CPI 3 and CPI 4 groups were statistically significant.
Conclusions: 26% of examined Warsaw citizens aged 35-44 need periodontal specialists’ treatment. The risk factors, such as age, nicotinism or obesity significantly may increase the risk of deep periodontal pockets occurence.
