Summary
Hard healing skin lesions around the stoma can be a big problem for the patient. Causes of skin complications can arise from technical error in deriving the stoma (bad location making it difficult to exchange bags, stoma too convex, concave, fall out, tapered), with incorrect stoma care, as well as the improper selection of stoma equipment. The article discusses the most common mistakes in stoma care and a review of preparations for the care of the stoma. The following most common mistakes are leading to changes in the skin around the stoma: improper cutting the hole in the plate and the use of inappropriate, irritating skin care products. They cause drying of the skin, remove the natural protective layer, thereby increasing the susceptibility to skin damageand infections. Other causesof inflammation of the skin around the stoma is allergic to any of the ingredients of stoma equipment (usually one of the components of the plate or tape) or one of the skin care products. In case of allergic inflammation of the skin caused by allergy to one of the components used in the manufacture of stoma equipment, it is necessary to eliminate the allergic causative agent, the most common is the selection of another ostomy equipment. In allergic dermatitis usually changes include the skin surface under the entire plate. The paper presents the most commonly used types stomy equipment. Proper fit of equipment, prevention and protection of the skin surrounding the stoma can have a decisive impact on the quality of life of the patient with a stoma.
