Summary
The human skin and the conditions on its surface such as the free water deficiency, the acidic pH, and the solar radiation do not favor the microbial colonization. In spite of those inconveniences there is a skin microflora, which consists of the resident and the transient flora. The microbial colonization on the skin surface is unequal; the concentration of sebaceous and sweat glands results in the higher density of the microorganisms. The unfavorable conditions such as a low immunity of an organism or a division of the skin surface may cause an infection, which might be the reason of various skin diseases. The main objective of the disinfection of the skin surface to reduce the number of microorganisms that colonize it. For this purpose there are various disinfectants (aseptic), which kill or inhibit physiological processes, including the growth of micro-organisms living on the skin. Skin cleansing process includes not only hygienic procedures (eg, hand washing), but also disinfection of wounds, surgical field, disinfecting the skin before injections and other treatments. During the process of disinfection of the skin is very important for the continuity of the skin-intact skin, we can use alcoholic preparations, and to disinfect the damaged skin (wounds, burns) using aqueous solutions of antiseptics. The most serious problem is the skin flora of hands, because it is contaminated by a large number of microorganisms, including pathogens and through it may claim to nosocomial infections or gastrointestinal infections (disease of dirty hands). Effective disinfection of skin care including of the body, the type of conjunction, chemical decontamination time and abiotic environmental factors. Skin rich in sebaceous glands and hair follicles (eg, scalp, area above the bridge area between the shoulder blades) requires a longer disinfection times up to 10 minutes. However, with a low content of the sebaceous glands in the skin require several to tens of seconds decontamination.
