Summary
Introduction. Venous thromboembolism (VTE), also known as venous thrombosis is a condition involving the formation of blood clots in the deep veins that restrict or inhibit the normal blood flow. Thrombosis is the third most common disease of the cardiovascular system, and the most common cause of pulmonary embolism sudden deaths of patients treated in hospitals. One of the factors determining the incidence of VTE is a way of life. In women using oral hormonal contraception (DTA), hypertension and cigarette smoking increases the risk of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke (twice). Women smokers, after 35 years of age should use tablets or injections containing only progestin or uterine devices.
Aim. The aim of this study was to examine women’s knowledge about the thromboembolic disease and to identify health behaviors, in particular taking the oral contraceptive pill and smoking, while the release of the priority tasks of challenging for public health activities.
Matherial and methods. The study was conducted among randomly selected 220 women over 15 years of age. Used for carrying out the original questionnaire and completed anonymously, in the on-line or directly. The questionnaire consisted of 15 questions and specification.
Results. Of all respondents 73% met with the term “venous thromboembolism” (“venous thrombosis”). The most common source of knowledge of the range represented 62% of Internet-Newspapers – 28%, friends – 27%, television and radio 26%. Near – 24% of respondents reported that knowledge of the described problem drew out of the house, 24% pointed to the school, or college. It is worth noting that only (18%) of the respondents, as a source of information indicating professional literature, and (7%), physician and other health care workers.
Conclusions. Doctor any woman who intends to start using birth control should have performed the basic research and perform a thorough interview. The primary consideration in the prevention of VTE is a health education-especially higher-risk groups.
