Wybrane przykłady wykorzystania nano-cząsteczek srebra w procedurach medycznych

Summary
The dynamic development of biotechnology enables the implementation of the new nano-materials for medical purposes. Among nano-metals, nano-particles of silver are most prominent, due to its strong antimicrobacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. General, long term and frequent usage of antibiotics for infection prevention caused rise in drug-resistant bacteria. So, the search of new, alternative sources of antimicrobial activity are undertaken. Silver has been used for the medical treatment for over 100 years. In presented paper the selected aspects of practical applications of new silver formulation as nano-particles in medical treatment are described. The cited examples suggest that silver nano-particles are promising, effective inhibitors of microorganisms growth, making them applicable in many medical fields, including ophthalmology, dermatology, orthopedics and many dental specialty as cariology, implantology, endodontic treatment, and surgery. Wider application of nano-silver required a further study for establishing the proper concentration for selected pathogens and development of treatment algorithm.
