Summary
Introduction. Hirschsprung’s disease is one cause of intestinal obstruction, which may occurre in the neonatal period. The main symptoms are: constipation, delayed passage of meconium, abdominal distension and vomiting with bilious or intestinal content. Treatment of Hirschsprung’s disease is surgical and can be carried in one-stage (which is the preferred treatment), or several stages surgery with temporary colostomy.
Aim of the study. The aim of the study was to analize the operative methods used in the treatment of Hirschsprung’s disease in a one-stage surgery.
Material end methods. The study material was collected on the basis of documentation of patients treated at the Department of Surgery, Traumatology and Urology, University of Medical Sciences in Poznań, over the years: 2000-2011. 2 girls and 21 boys were treated with one-stage surgery using methods: TEPT (transanal endorectal pull-through) and Duhamel-Martin.
The analysis included the age of the operated patients, the length of resected bowel, time of surgery, the need for blood transfusions during and after surgery, time from surgery to discharge.
Results. Number of patients treated using TEPT technique was 22, Duhamel-Martin 1 girl.
Conclusions. The most preferred operating technique was TEPT. For neonates and babies the best method is TEPT, because it is less invasive. For older children better one is the Duhamel-Martin technique.
