Summary
Osteoporosis – the “epidemic of the XXI century” – is a serious social and medical problem. Contemporary standard of preventing and treating this disease is an oral/intravenous drug therapy with bisphosphonates. Jaw bone osteonecrosis is a rare, but very serious complication of the bisphosphonates therapy. We present the literature review on the dental management and cooperation between dentists and doctors in order to provide best medical scrutiny of patients with osteoporosis treated with these agents. The study also incorporates the problematic issue of implantation procedures and relationship between periodontal disease and osteoporosis.
