Summary
Breast lipomas are benign tumors of mesenchymal origin occurring mainly in women between 40 and 60 years of age. Giant breast lipoma is when one diameter of this tumor is greater than 100 mm or weighs at least 1000 grams. Surgery is still the only cheap, effective and safe treatment for patients. Patient after excision of breast lipoma should be under the control outpatient-room because of possible recurrence after excision which may occur even after several years.
In this article the authors present a case of a young woman treated surgically due to a giant lipoma of the right breast and also reviewed the recent literature relating to this disease and its treatment.
