Summary
Pentacyclic triterpenes are structurally divers, widespread secondary metabolites of plants. This review shows that their pharmacological potential is very high. In many experiments, in vitro and in vivo, it was stated that they display various pharmacological effects, among others anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-atherosclerotic, spasmolytic, antiallergic. They are promising compounds for the development of new multi-targeting bioactive agents.
