Summary
Green tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) is commonly known as Tea and became a popular beverage the most widely consumed in the world today which has been reported to exert beneficial effects on human body. Camellia sinensis can act as chemopreventive, anticarcinogenic, antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. Green tea is an excellent source of polyphenols (especially catechins). The tee plant popular in the Far East, differs from the black tea familiar in the West in that an oxidation step (called “fermentation”) occurs in the processing of the latter compound but not the former compound. In this paper we attempt to summarize the various pharmacological activities of green tea, particularly anticancer and antioxidant action. There are o lot of in vitro and in vivo studies which confirm the beneficial role of green tea in the treatment of some disorders.
