Summary
The growing interest in herbal medicine has led to many studies aimed at the best and comprehensive use of plants for medicinal purposes and cosmetics. For medicinal plants frequently used by humans include stinging nettle (Urtica dioica L.), which is often perceived by many of us as trying to weed scoured. But for most of the missing is a valuable source of substances used in the treatment of many ailments. For this reason, Urtica dioica is considered one of the most valuable plants used in phytotherapy. Stinging nettle herbal raw material supplies, such as leaves and herbs – Urticae folium and Urticae herba, as well as roots Urticae radix. This material is also successfully used as monotherapy and combination therapy. Internally, it is recommended as an adjunct to urinary tract diseases, inflammation, increasing diuresis and supportive treatment of prostatic hyperplasia. However, both externally and internally as recommended in the treatment of rheumatoid diseases. In addition to herbal extracts from the leaves and roots of the nettle have long been used as a means of strengthening the hair roots and prevent dandruff and seborrhea of the skin. Conducted so far revealed the presence of biochemical studies of biologically active compounds in the herb, roots and leaves of stinging nettle necessary for the proper functioning of the body. Proven research analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial activity of stinging nettle is the beginning of studies aimed at further understanding the properties of this unusual plant.
