Summary
Introduction: Laser-assisted therapy is increasingly used nowadays as a helpful way to treat medical conditions in the oral cavity, its especially interesting aspect being laser biostimulation (laser therapy). For this purpose low and medium power lasers are mainly used. Biostimulation gives the effect equal to the use of analgesics or anti-inflammatory medications and it also considerably shortens the time of therapy.
Aim of the study: The aim of this article is to present how biostimulative lasers can affect body tissues, what processes take place in the tissues after being stimulated by the laser-transmitted light, as well as indicating possibilities of utilizing laser biostimulation in treatment of medical conditions in the oral cavity.
Conclusion: Laser-assisted therapy proves a highly-effective therapeutic method. Laser therapy for biostimulation is characterized by an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, can prevent swelling, accelerates regeneration of wounded tissues and significantly reduces the risk of infection. Due to all these features laser irradiation can be widely used to treat various medical conditions of the oral cavity and also can be found useful to prevent such conditions.
