Summary
Dental caries is a transmissible infectious disease. It is widespread among the population, even among children of very young age. Caries risk factors is a name applied to those occurrences distinguished by long-term epidemiological researches, of which the activity leads to development of the disease. The reduction of such factors, statistically, considerably increases the chance of avoiding caries. Determination of caries risk of a patient is an element of individual caries control. It implies an active participation in the dental procedures from the patient and their carer, as well as their co-responsibility for the patient’s dental condition, and causal approach to prevention and treatment.
