Summary
Introduction: Resin infiltration close micropores of demineralisated enamel to prevent the diffusion of acids and the loss of minerals. Infiltrated enamel layer should form a tight barrier insulating enamel from the influence of cariogenic bacteria.
Aim of the study: Aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment spot lesions on smooth surfaces of primary teeth using resin infiltration compared with fluoride varnish remineralisation.
Matherials and methods: 36 children aged from 18 to 71 months with the presence of min. 2 spots lesions in each subject were included into this study. Clinical examination was carried out 3 times: before the intervention, 3 and 6 months after the intervention. The state of oral hygiene and dental health was evaluated. In the control group teeth were coated with fluoride varnish, in the experimental group spot lesion were treated by resin infiltration, followed fluoride varnish was applied.
Results: In the experimental group all the spots 100% remained inactive in both control tests, while the control group were observed in 8.7% of active patches. It has been reported the appearance of new caries lesions; the experimental group: 2 in „I” and 5 in „II” trial, the control group: 1 in „I” trial and 2 in „II” trial.
Conclusions: In children with the spot lesions on smooth surfaces of teeth resin infiltration with apply fluoride varnish decreases compared with the use of fluoride varnish only the incidence of caries progression.
